A Beautiful Birmingham Wedding at Clubhouse on Highland and Church of the Highlands
There are wedding days that are beautiful, and then there are wedding days that feel like one giant celebration from beginning to end. Kendall and Luke’s Birmingham, Alabama wedding was absolutely the latter.
From an emotional morning at Clubhouse on Highland to a heartfelt ceremony at Church of the Highlands’ Grants Mill Campus, followed by one of the most energetic wedding receptions we’ve photographed, every part of their July wedding day felt completely them.
As a Birmingham wedding photographer, we love days that have a little bit of everything: meaningful family moments, beautiful details, gorgeous portraits, a ceremony filled with emotion, and a dance floor that absolutely refuses to quit.
Kendall and Luke’s wedding day delivered all of it.
From High School Church Friends to Husband and Wife
Kendall and Luke’s story began years before their wedding day.
They first met in high school at church. Life eventually took them in different directions as they both moved away for school, but three years later, they reconnected.
Six years after reconnecting, they were standing in the very same church where their story originally began, this time promising forever to one another.
There was something incredibly special about photographing their wedding at Church of the Highlands’ Grants Mill Campus knowing that this was where their story started.
What began as two people who met at church eventually became a love story that brought them right back to that same place to get married.
And honestly, we couldn’t think of a better full-circle moment.
Getting Ready at Clubhouse on Highland
The day began at Clubhouse on Highland, one of Birmingham’s most recognizable historic event spaces.
Kendall spent the morning getting ready alongside her bridesmaids, surrounded by excitement, laughter, and plenty of anticipation for what was ahead.
There was already a feeling that this was going to be a special day.
Clubhouse on Highland provided the perfect backdrop for the morning. From the beautiful architecture and natural light to the outdoor balcony overlooking Birmingham, there were plenty of opportunities for us to photograph the little details that made Kendall and Luke’s wedding feel uniquely theirs.
And then came the champagne.
Kendall and her bridesmaids celebrated on the balcony with an epic champagne spray that turned into one of our favorite photographs from the entire day. We even took the opportunity to photograph the celebration from above with our drone, creating a completely different perspective of the moment.
It was fun, chaotic, and exactly the kind of photograph that captures the personality of a wedding day.
Emotional First Looks With the People Who Matter Most
One of our favorite parts of Kendall’s morning was the series of first looks she shared before the ceremony.
First came her bridesmaids.
The reaction was emotional, genuine, and full of excitement as they saw Kendall fully dressed as a bride for the first time.
Then came her father.
There are some wedding-day moments that simply cannot be recreated, and a father seeing his daughter as a bride for the first time is always one of them.
Kendall’s first look with her dad was fun and emotional and gave us one of those quiet moments that makes wedding photography so meaningful.
These are the photographs that go beyond simply documenting what someone looked like. They preserve exactly how a moment felt.
Getting Ready at Church of the Highlands
After the morning at Clubhouse on Highland, we headed to Church of the Highlands’ Grants Mill Campus, where Luke finished getting ready before the ceremony.
The Grants Mill Campus would soon be filled with friends and family, but before the ceremony began, Kendall and Luke had a few more meaningful moments waiting for them.
Kendall shared another emotional first look, this time with her brother.
It was another reminder that wedding days aren’t only about the bride and groom. They’re about the people who have been part of their story long before the wedding day ever arrived.
And then it was time for Kendall and Luke to see each other.
Kendall & Luke’s First Look
Kendall and Luke shared their first look in the courtyard outside the chapel.
After six years of building their relationship and a story that had already taken them through different seasons of life, the anticipation of finally seeing each other as bride and groom was palpable.
Their first look gave them a chance to slow down and actually be together before the ceremony began.
They also took a moment to read the vows they had written for each other.
It was intimate, emotional, and incredibly personal.
In the middle of a busy wedding day, these moments allowed Kendall and Luke to focus on the reason everyone was there in the first place: the two of them.
Elegant Birmingham Wedding Portraits
Once the first looks and private vows were finished, we took advantage of the beautiful courtyard at Church of the Highlands for portraits.
The July sun was bright and warm, but it created beautiful summer light throughout the day.
Kendall and Luke looked incredible together, and their modern wedding style paired beautifully with the architecture and clean lines surrounding the chapel.
We photographed portraits of the two of them as well as the full bridal party, bridesmaids, and groomsmen.
The floral design was one of the standout details of the day. Mo Rose Florals incorporated gorgeous white calla lilies throughout the wedding, creating a modern and elegant look that worked beautifully with Kendall’s bridal style and the chapel.
The calla lilies became one of the defining visual details of the wedding.
A Meaningful Ceremony at Church of the Highlands
Then it was time for the moment everyone had been waiting for.
Kendall walked down the aisle at Church of the Highlands’ Grants Mill Campus to marry Luke.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the chapel.
After everything that had happened earlier in the day, seeing these two officially become husband and wife in the same church where they originally met made the ceremony feel even more meaningful.
It was emotional, joyful, and completely centered around their story.
And then, just like that, Kendall and Luke were married.
Back to Clubhouse on Highland for the Reception
After the ceremony, everyone headed back to Clubhouse on Highland for the reception.
Engaged Wedding Library did an incredible job bringing the day together, and the reception design was filled with beautiful details and thoughtful touches.
From the florals by Mo Rose Florals to the outdoor setup, every element felt intentional without taking away from what mattered most: celebrating Kendall and Luke.
Guests were also treated to a beautifully styled mobile bar from Posh Boho Mobile Bar, giving everyone the perfect place to grab a drink and enjoy the warm Birmingham summer evening.
A Wedding Cake With a Family Story
One of the sweetest details of the reception was Kendall and Luke’s wedding cake.
Rather than choosing a completely new design, they decided to recreate Kendall’s parents’ wedding cake.
That small detail made the cake so much more than just a beautiful part of the reception. It became a piece of family history incorporated into their own wedding day.
Olexa’s Catering brought the cake vision to life, and it was one of those details that made the entire day feel even more personal.
The Birmingham Wedding Reception Went OFF
Then came the party.
And when we say Kendall and Luke’s reception was fun, we mean FUN.
Rocket Entertainment kept the dance floor packed all night long, and the energy never seemed to slow down.
There were wild dance moves, nonstop celebration, and some serious commitment to having the best possible time.
At one point, some of the groomsmen apparently decided they needed to step up their dance game and literally Googled the best dance moves before attempting the helicopter.
Somehow, they pulled it off.
It was ridiculous.
It was hilarious.
And it was exactly what a great wedding reception should be.
The dance floor was full of people who clearly weren’t interested in standing around and watching the party happen. They wanted to be part of it.
And Kendall and Luke were right in the middle of everything.
The Perfect Birmingham Wedding Exit
Eventually, even the most energetic reception has to come to an end.
Kendall and Luke couldn’t believe the night was already over, but it was time for their final moment of the evening.
They headed outside for a sparkler leave-out surrounded by their friends and family.
After a full day of emotional first looks, heartfelt vows, a beautiful ceremony, incredible portraits, nonstop dancing, and a reception that absolutely flew by, they finally drove away as husband and wife.
It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable Birmingham wedding day.
Kendall & Luke’s Birmingham Wedding Was One to Remember
From the balcony at Clubhouse on Highland to the chapel at Church of the Highlands Grants Mill, Kendall and Luke’s wedding day was filled with moments we won’t soon forget.
Their story began at church.
Life took them in different directions.
They found their way back to each other.
And six years later, they stood in that same church and promised to spend the rest of their lives together.
As Birmingham wedding photographers, getting to document a story like that is exactly why we love what we do.
We aren’t just there to photograph the dress, the flowers, the venue, or the party.
We’re there for the champagne sprays, the shaky hands, the tears during a first look, the private vows, the grandparents watching from the pews, the ridiculous dance moves, and the final sparkler exit.
And Kendall and Luke’s wedding day had every bit of it.
